VIDÉO - Elizabeth II assiste pour la première fois à une cérémonie "virtuelle"

En raison de la crise du coronavirus, Elizabeth II a dû participer samedi 25 juillet à une cérémonie officielle via un appel vidéo. Une première dans l'histoire de la Couronne britannique.

À 94 ans, Elizabeth II parvient encore à faire rimer modernité avec tradition. Samedi 25 juillet, la monarque a ainsi été le premier membre de la famille royale à assister virtuellement à la présentation d'un tableau, en l’occurrence un portrait la représentant dans la plus pure tradition britannique.

En raison de la crise du coronavirus, et des recommandations sanitaires en vigueur au Royaume-Uni, la reine a dû participer à cette cérémonie officielle via un appel vidéo. À cette occasion, l'artiste Miriam Escofet lui a dévoilé une toile la dépeignant assise sur une chaise dorée, dans une robe bleue, une tasse de thé à ses côtés. À l'arrière-plan est visible une peinture du XVIIIe siècle représentant son aïeule la reine Charlotte, l'épouse du roi George III.

Assise devant un écran d'ordinateur et une webcam, la monarque est apparue souriante et manifestement ravie de ce portrait. Elle a également profité de cette "cérémonie virtuelle" pour féliciter les membres du "Foreign office", le ministère des Affaires étrangères britannique, et a souligné leur capacité d'adaptation face à la pandémie de Covid-19.
