New York : à 11 ans, il meurt après avoir sauvé son ami tombé dans un lac gelé

En secourant son ami, Anthony Perez est à son tour tombé dans l'eau glacée d'un étang de New York, mardi 6 février.

Drame autour d'un lac gelé à New York. Mardi 6 février un enfant de 11 ans est décédé après avoir sauvé un de ses amis tombé dans l'eau glacée d'un étang situé dans le quartier du Queens, à l'Est de la ville.

Les deux enfants jouaient sur l'étendue gelée, quand la glace s'est brisée sous le poids de l'un d'entre eux âgé de 12 ans, rapporte ABC News. Aussitôt, son ami, Anthony Perez s'est précipité pour le secourir avant de tomber à son tour et de disparaître sous la glace.

À leur arrivée, les pompiers ont plongé dans l'eau pour retrouver l'enfant. Ils ont du "avec leurs mains, casser la glace et la découper pour atteindre la zone où le garçon pouvait se trouver", a expliqué George Healy, le chef des pompiers new-yorkais. Anthony Perez a ensuite été transporté à l'hôpital où il est finalement décédé.

"We were met by several civilians that stated that a child had fell through the ice. Two members of #Ladder142, and one member from #Engine294 entered the water, and were able to rapidly locate a child that was submerged under the water. The child was removed from the water and medical treatment began immediately, and the child was transported to Jamaica Hospital. At this point it appears that the child went out about 50 feet before the ice let go underneath them. There are signs around all the lakes in the city and we implore you, tell your children - the ice is not safe, it's not going to support your weight, and it can have tragic consequences," says #FDNY Deputy Chief George Healy, #Division13, from the scene at Forest Park in #Queens, where a child was removed from the water after falling through the ice. "Members had to physically, with their hands, break through the ice and chop the ice so they could get to the area that they knew the child would most likely be in. They had to go underneath to get the child. Two members are at the hospital being treated for hypothermia. Again, the ice looks to be safe, it looks to be thick, but the temperature today was well above freezing. We implore parents - make sure your kids know the ice in the city of New York, on these lakes and ponds, is not safe. It won't support your weight. Please stay off the ice." The patient was transported in critical condition. FDNY urges all New Yorkers to please, stay off of the ice. There is no such thing as safe ice.
